Abstract
Surface modification of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) from hydrophobic to hydrophilic by Xe excimer lamp irradiation is performed in order to enhance the adhesion of ferrite-plated films onto the PTFE. The contact angle of water droplet is about 60° before irradiation and decreases to 5° after irradiation. It is found that under the same ferrite plating condition, with increase of irradiation time, many more Fe3O4 nucleation sites are formed due to the increase of the number of OH groups on the PTFE caused by Xe excimer lamp irradiation photomodification. Keywords
