Abstract
Crossbred rabbits of both sexes (40), 44 days old, were fed ad lib for 6 wk with a standard (control) diet (based on sesame oil meal and starch) or 1 of 4 diets obtained by replacing 1 fraction of starch by wood fiber (8 or 16%) or maize oil (4 or 8%). The growth rates were not significantly different. Increased fiber content increased the amounts of feed ingested (+ 18 to + 21%) and reduced the efficiency. Increased lipid content did not modify the feed efficiency. A marked deterioration of the apparent digestibility of dry matter, organic matter and energy was noticed when lipid level and especially fiber level increased. Protein digestibility of the different diets was the same. The addition of lipids did not enhance the digestible energy content because of the low digestibility of the lipids added. Replacement of starch by crude fiber noticeable reduced the digestible energy content of the diet, i.e., about 2% (60 kcal/kg) per point of supplementary fiber. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
