Abstract
Characterization of Pb‐Ti complex alkoxide has been made by molecular weight determination and viscosity measurement. Complex alkoxides were prepared by heating an equimolar mixture of lead acetate and tetrabutoxytitanium in different solvent species such as methoxyethanol, butoxyethanol and xylene under different time‐temperature conditions. Analysis by the Mark‐Houwink equation proposed that the early complex alkoxide molecules are spherical up to tetramers but change to an elongated structure on further polymerization. Thus, a sharp increase in viscosity observed after extended reaction time has been explained as due to the formation of polymers with high aspect ratios. The gelation time increased with increasing molecular weight in the spherical region but decreased in the high aspect ratio region. Keywords
