Abstract
The prevalence rates of hydatidosis in 2444 sheep and 1474 goats in Jordan were 1·3 and 0·54% and for tenuicollosis 9·2 and 6·2%, respectively. The two infections were most frequent in the second year of life, more commonly in sheep than goats. Multiple hydatids were found usually in the liver and in older animals, but multiple Cysticercus tenuicollis cysts were most common in the peritoneum and in animals aged one to two years. The average cyst diameter was 35 mm in hydatidosis and 25 mm in tenuicollosis; 44% of the sheep hydatids were fertile. Cysticercus tenuicollis cysts had little clinical significance. Coexistent infections occurred in about one of every 1200 sheep examined. In Jordan, Echinococcus granulosus was found in 14·5% of stray dogs and the presence of Taenia hydatigena was established in 45·6%.This publication has 11 references indexed in Scilit:
