Abstract
The concentration of magnesium in ACD plasma was determined at various times during storage of blood. No significant change was found. The penetration of labelled citrate into red cells from ACD plasma was followed during storage conditions. No significant penetration was found. The implications of these findings concerning the mode of binding of magnesium in the red cells and concerning the possible role of magnesium in the development of the “storage lesion” of the red cells are discussed. Keywords
