Distribution of the Sensitivities to Penicillin of Types of Diplococcus pneumoniae in an American Indian Population

Abstract
Pneumococci relatively insensitive to penicillin (minimal inhibitory concentration, ⩾ 0.1 µg/ml) were demonstrated in 14% of strains of Diplococcus pneumoniae isolated from Navajo Indians; this result was comparable to findings previously reported from New Guinea. That these strains can cause disease was evidenced by their isolation in three instances from cultures of body fluid.
