Abstract
PERIODIC assessment of knowledge regarding infantile paralysis is highly desirable. I know of no other disease in which the public has such a great interest and, in turn, apprehension out of proportion to its incidence, morbidity and mortality. Many sensational statements regarding new developments are reported in the lay press with very little corresponding information available in medical journals and without scientific confirmation. This makes it difficult for members of the medical profession not working in this particular field to keep informed regarding developments, real or alleged, affecting the disease.
