Abstract
The existence of pulmonary infiltration caused by deposition of hair spray lacquer (thesaurosis) has been disputed. Five cases are presented in which extensive pulmonary infiltrate was present without any detectable cause. It is felt that hair spray exposure was the most likely origin of the infiltrate in these patients. Published cases of thesaurosis are reviewed and diagnostic features are discussed. A survey of beauty operators did not uncover any cases of thesaurosis; however, increased bronchovascular markings were noted in 11 of 227 subjects. Keywords
