Induction of Premature Honey Bee (Hymenoptera: Apidae) Flight by Juvenile Hormone Analogs Administered Orally or Topically

Abstract
Premature flight activity was observed in groups of worker honey bees, Apis mellifera , treated topically or orally with juvenile hormone analogs (JHA’s) hydroprene or methoprene. Oral treatments with JHA’s appear to induce premature foraging similar to that induced by topical applications. Honey bee colonies might be induced to forage more actively and be more efficient in crop pollination if they were fed JHA’s.
