Abstract
Biochemical patterns in serum reflect (a) necrotic, and (b) reparative processes in tissues. Elevations of serum creatine kinase, lactate dehydrogenase, and aspartate aminotransferase are widely used in early confirmation of myocardial necrosis. Elevations of serum γ-glutamyl transpeptidase, 5′-nucleotidase and alkaline phosphatase occur later and may reflect vascular changes which occur during reparative processes. The latter enzymes cannot replace the former trilogy in confirmation of the diagnosis of myocardial infarction. Keywords
