Abstract
The synthesis in great quantity of o‐methylthio and o‐methylselenobenzoic acids, substituted in position 3,4, 5 or 6, is investigated from the corresponding anthranilic acids. The ways giving good yields of derived benzaldehydes, benzophenones and acetophenones are described. Through these substances, the thio‐1 and seleno‐1 coumarins and different heterocyclic compounds are now easily obtainable. O‐ benzylthio and o‐benzylselenobenzaldehydes and other interesting starting substances are also prepared.
