Abstract
The relationship between eeg findings and blood pressure was investigated in 233 psychiatric patients and 261 mentally normal controls over 60 years. Among psychiatric patients, elevated blood pressure is associated with a higher incidence of normal eeg''s, while reduced blood pressure is related to diffuse slow wave abnormalities. A similar correlation was not obtained for the control subjects, who showed considerably less diffuse slow activity. Impaired cerebral blood flow appears to be important in the etiology of such slowing. Keywords
