Abstract
The divergence of underdamped-mode linewidth in the vicinity of structural phase transition is treated by the usual anharmonic theory, renormalized to account for the actual temperature dependence of the soft phonon frequencies that enter the damping term. Results are found to fit satisfactorily damping data of A2 and E modes in quartz. Keywords
