Effect of surface stress on the natural frequency of thin crystals

Abstract
Within the framework of classical beam theory it is shown that a strain‐independent surface stress has no effect on the natural frequency of a thin cantilever beam. Therefore, the experimental results of Lagowski, Gatos, and Sproles must have a different explanation.Keywords
