Abstract
Measurements have been made on a series of films, about 1000‐Å thick, prepared from Ni–Co ingots having a Ni content of 50% by weight. The depositions were made on glass microscope slides in the temperature range 20°C to 400°C. The measurements were made with a Kerr effect loop‐plotter on an area of 2 mm sq. The results show a correlation between HK (Kobelev's method) and αq which is not directly dependent on the substrate temperature. By extrapolation, HKq = 0) = 33 Oe. This value is 40% higher than that calculated assuming that the anisotropy is due to the magnetoelastic constraint energy mechanism. However, because of the assumptions used, the calculated value is considered to be close enough to propose that this mechanism is dominant in determining the anisotropy. The relation between HK and αq is interpreted as due to both parameters being dependent on the intercrystallite coupling.
