Abstract
This paper considers the problems that may arise when some existing FORTRAN codes are apphed to the numerical solution of stiff oscillatory ordinary differential equations. By applying a selection of suitable software to a sequence of model problems, it is possible to identify the difficulties that may be encountered when the codes are to be used in more realistic applications. This paper highlights these &fficulties and pays particular attention to the effects of using the software on different computers. Keywords
