Abstract
Radio emission by extensive air showers is analyzed in terms of the apparent particle accelerations as seen from the radio receiving aerial. The electric field is caused partly by the longitudinal motion of the shower particles, but principally by the transverse, geomagnetic deflections. The frequency range is controlled mainly by the way in which the shower builds up to maximum: above about 20 MHz the radio pulses are expected to become smaller through progressive loss of coherence. Keywords
