Abstract
Previous studies on the use of pyrolysis gas chromatography to characterize polyene macrolide antibiotics have been extended to the heptaene complex, DJ-400, which may be distinguished from the substances examined earlier. Amphotericin B and several members of the aromatic group of heptaene antibiotics have been degraded chemically by a variety of methods. The resulting products, in some instances after derivatization, have been separated and compared by gas chromatography. The distinction between DJ-400 and candicidin, levorin and trichomycin has been confirmed. Certain differences appear to exist among these last three.
