Abstract
A cell-free system obtained from Trichothecium roseum mediates the biosynthesis of trichodiene (2), a hydrocarbon precursor of trichothecin (3). The isomerization and cyclization of all-trans-farnesyl pyrophosphate (1) takes place with the loss of a 1-pro-S-hydrogen atom of farnesyl pyrophosphate and its ultimate replacement by a 4-pro-S-hydrogen atom of NADPH.Keywords
