Abstract
Acelone solulions of 4 field tested insecticides were applied to adults of a weevil Hyperodes near anthracinus (Dietz), a pest of the annual bluegrass, Poa annua L. Dosages per weevil required for LD50 values in 48 h were 3.25 μg for bendiocarb (2,2-dimethyl-1,3-benzodioxol-4-yl N-methylcarbamate), 0.165 μg for chlorpyrifos, 1.70 μg for diazinon, and 0.037 μg for CGA-12223 (O-[5-chloro-1-[methylethyl]-1H-1,2,4-triazol-3 yl]O-O-diethyl phosphorothioate). CGA-12223 was 4, 46, and 88 times more toxic than chlorpyrifos, diazinon, and bendiocarb, respectively. These compounds ranked in the same order of effectiveness in 1976 field tests. Field evaluations confirmed previous results that a single properly timed application of chlorpyrifos at 2.2 kg AI/ha provided adequate control but that the registered formulations of diazinon required 2 applications of 4.5 kg AI/ha for adequate control. CCA-12223 at the 2.2 kg AI/ha was the most effective treatment and indicated a greater flexibility in timing of applications than with chorpyrifos, the most effective registered insecticide. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
