Abstract
Excised leaves of T. virginiana were supplied at their bases with water containing a dilute solution of lead-EDTA chelate. After the leaf had been allowed to transpire for 3–5 h the lead was precipitated in situ using hydrogen sulphide. Leaf sections were examined microscopically and the path of the transpiration stream and the sites of evaporation inferred from the distribution of lead precipitate. From the distribution of precipitate it was concluded that there is more evaporation from cells lining the substomatal cavity, compared with cells in the bulk of the mesophyll, than was previously thought to be the case. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
