Abstract
Available evidence concerning the prevalence of primary drug resistance throughout the world was reviewed. Such initially resistant strains were observed among all reported groups of patients studied in such manner that their presence could be detected. More refined laboratory methods are required before their true prevalence may be estimated. Until further information is available, however, one must proceed on the assumption that these strains may hot be rare, and the possibility must be recognized that they could become an important public health problem. Keywords
