Abstract
Sections were taken at a height of 1 foot from the trunks of different trees at 1- or 2-week intervals. In Fraxinus xylem formation began about April 15, when the trees were in full bloom and before the leaves were out. Maximum growth occurred during May, and by July 15 growth had practically ceased. In Acer growth started about April 20, when the leaves were about half grown. Growth was very active during May and June, and by August 1 it had practically ceased. The production of xylem and the width of the cambial layer showed a direct correlation with mean temp. until a mean of about 60[degree]F. was reached, after which there appeared to be an inverse correlation. No correlation with precipitation was apparent. Keywords
