Abstract
Ignorance and misunderstanding regarding the life-cycle and biol. features of Echinococcus granulosus are stressed. The true facts are indicated by line diagrams. Sheep and cattle swallow hydatid ova with the grass they eat, but children are usually infected from putting hands into the mouth, after handling dogs whose hair is contaminated by fecal dust containing ova. Children are more susceptible than adults and the majority of adult infections are actually contracted in childhood. "A hydatid cyst is in most cases nearly as old as the patient.".Keywords
