Abstract
Linear increase in the ratio of superoxide dismutase to specific metabolic rate as a function of maximum lifespan potential has been proposed as evidence that longevity may be controlled in part by the activity of this enzyme. A role for superoxide dismutase in aging is not supported by these findings since any property which is constant as a function of lifespan will give an excellent linear correlation if plotted as its ratio to specific metabolic rate against lifespan.
