Abstract
For anyone interested in coasts and coastal processes, this book is a must. The 80 years of comparative photography of the San Diego County coast alone makes the book worthwhile reading. There are two major themes of this small volume. The first, and best presented, is the episodic nature of erosion along a high‐energy coast. This portion of the southern California coast has been observed by one of the authors for many years. A large portion of the historical photos were taken by Shepard, and the exact sites have been recently revisited and rephotographed. The comparisons are striking.
