AEROBIC CULTIVATION OF CLOSTRIDIUM TETANI IN THE PRESENCE OF COBALT

Abstract
In previous research a distinct influence of Co++ on Bacillus asterosporus (B. polymyxa). especially its capacity to reduce the rH, was observed. Therefore, it was thought possible to cultivate obligate anaerobes under aerobic conditions in presence of Co++. Experiments with C. tetani showed the possibility of cultivating this organism under aerobic conditions, with 4 [mu]g Co++/ml nutrient solution.
