Abstract
An account of comparative laboratory tests on small potted elm trees for control by spraying of the European Elm Bark beetle, Scolytus multistriatus. Arsenate of lead and wettable DDT powder both gave good protection; mist-blown DDT in kerosene killed the trees as a result of kerosene penetration of the tender bark. The check tree (unsprayed) was girdled by Scolytus beetles and killed. A survey of 700 elm trees well cared-for by spraying, pruning and feeding, showed less than 1% dying of Dutch elm disease-Scolytus injuries during the past 10 years, while 25% of poorly cared-for street trees in the same area died as a result of the disease-beetle combination. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
