Abstract
Addition of glutamate to cell-free extracts of A. vinelandii produces a temporary increase in the rate of O2 uptake during succinate oxidation. A concn. of 3-4 [mu]g./ml. of oxalacetate was found to be present during succinate oxidation which was virtually removed by the addition of pyruvate or acetate. It is suggested that the slow oxidation of succinate in the presence of Azotobacter extracts is caused by the inhibitory effect of oxlacetate on succinic acid dehydrogenase. Keywords
