Abstract
By using the general formulas derived from the analysis in a previous paper, calculations are made of the development of electronic and ionic space charges, the growth of space-charge-distorted field, the buildup of current, and the gain in ionization integral due to the field distortion in the transient Townsend discharge. On the basis of these data, two types of Townsend-mechanism spark breakdown are also discussed. Keywords
