Thyroid Function Tests-Which One?

Abstract
A multitude of thyroid function tests are available to the clinician to aid in the diagnosis of [human] thyroid disease. The laboratory test that is requested may not be appropriate, and the test result may lead to the wrong diagnosis and treatment. Some of the problems are due to the vast number of available tests, the confusing terms used to describe the tests, and physician failure to understand exactly what is measured in the requested test. Sources of error in diagnosis are discussed.
