Thunderstorm Theories

Abstract
I must start with a brief outline of the observational facts about thunderstorms, which must be explained by a satisfactory theory. I have not time to discuss how these facts have been established, but can just enumerate them. The main separation of charge in a thunder cloud consists of an upper positive charge and a lower negative charge; the average quantities of charge concerned are 20 to 30 coulombs separated by a few km.
