Abstract
Recent developments in the statutory family and child welfare field have led to the active promotion of the idea of partnership in the relationship between client families and social workers. This article highlights the international trend of client participation, and while supporting the principle, shows that there are significant obstacles to be overcome before social workers can move beyond the rhetoric. Keywords
