Radar Observations of the Giacobinid Meteor Shower, 1946

Abstract
An account is given of observations during the Giacobinid shower of 1946 of radio reflections from ionization caused by the passage of the meteors through the upper atmosphere. Recordings of the echoes from the ionization in the immediate vicinity of the meteors have enabled the geocentric velocity to be determined, a mean value of 22.9 km./sec. being obtained from the analysis of 22 tracks. The characteristics of the stronger and more enduring echoes from the meteor trains are also outlined.
