Abstract
We calculate the M1 strength functions of Ne20 and Ar36 using the wave functions obtained in a full sd-shell configuration-mixing calculation. Our results strongly suggest that the 1+ T=1 state of Ne20 at 11.24 MeV is the counterpart in light nuclei of the recently discovered ‘‘twisting mode’’ in heavy nuclei. Keywords
