Abstract
A relatively new magnetic-levitation device is discussed. This levitation device uses an electromagnet which is the inductive part of a resonance circuit and the paper seeks an explanation of the principal properties of the system. Some of the properties are analysed by the use of steady-state impedances. The dynamic instability is interpreted by comparison with electromechanical parametric machines. The results of the experiments described are in agreement with the theory. The paper concludes with a brief mention of an analogy between this levitation system and a device where levitation is obtained by induction.
