Clinical Applications of a Gamma Camera

Abstract
The gamma camera has been used for thyroid, brain and kidney scanning and its immediate and potential uses after further modification are indicated. The camera has also been used with a collimating grid instead of a pinhole and preliminary results with it are reported. It is concluded that the gamma camera can be used successfully for the majority of present-day radioactive-isotope scanning techniques, with the limitations that the display is small and to some extent distorted; these disadvantages are minimal in thyroid scanning. The machine will enable dynamic events to be studied and short-lived isotopes to be used, neither of which are practicable with mechanical scanning machines.
