Abstract
To the Editor: There is little published information about the effect of platelet transfusions in thrombocytopenia due to a drug-dependent antibody.1 2 3 4 The use of such transfusions is uncommon since the prognosis after withdrawal of the drug is usually excellent. Another reason could be the concern that rapid immune destruction of transfused platelets may worsen the situation.5 We recently saw a patient with quinidine-induced thrombocytopenia to whom platelets were transfused, with excellent results. This 83-year-old woman had been taking single doses of quinidine gluconate (330 mg, sustained release) for leg cramps at intervals of two to four weeks for one year. . . .Keywords
