Abstract
Following the work of Schrieffer, Wen, and Zhang on the ‘‘spin-bag’’ mechanism we study the formation of magnetic polarons in the two-dimensional Hubbard model in the Hartree-Fock approximation. The profile and effective mass of the polarons are caclulated for various U over t ratios. The static potential between two polarons is presented for various spin and charge configurations. The effect of the nearest-neighbor repulsion is also considered. The relevance of the results to high- superconductivity is discussed.
