Abstract
The virial theorem for variational functions in scattering theory is extended to problems involving non-local potentials as well as central potentials, and to arbitrary values of the scaling parameter. The theory is further generalized to scattering by an atomic system, and the various forms of the virial theorem are applied to the elastic scattering of electrons by hydrogen atoms in which full allowance is made for exchange by employing symmetrized wavefunctions. Keywords
