Results of Roentgen Therapy of Carcinoma of the Lip

Abstract
This study was undertaken to analyze the results of roentgen therapy in 158 cases of primary carcinoma of the lip treated between 1947 and 1955 inclusive. All of the lesions were histologically proved squamous-cell carcinoma, confined to the lip and adjacent mucous membrane and skin, but not involving the mandible or other deeper structures. No evidence of metastasis was present at time of therapy. None of the lesions had received any type of previous treatment. One hundred and fifty-five of the patients were males, and 3 were females. The youngest patient was 31 and the oldest 91 years of age. The lower lip was the site of the carcinoma in 145 patients. Seven were on the upper lip, 5 involved the commissure and the lower lip, and one lesion was centered in the commissure. In 94 cases, the size of the tumor was 1 cm. or less in diameter, andKeywords
