Abstract
The five papers in this symposium are aimed at providing empirical background for addressing the questions of how useful, and also how usable, verbal protocol methodology is within the field of human factors. Research approaches range from experimental to case study, and topics range from comparative assessment of procedural variations in verbal protocols, to their application in unique task domains. Both types of research have shown encouraging results, which will be discussed in terms of potential standardization of procedure, and of wider use and application of verbal protocol methodology.
