The Kansas Black Bass Tournament Monitoring Program

Abstract
The Kansas Black Bass (Micropterus spp.) Tournament Monitoring Program was begun by the Kansas Fish and Game Commission in 1977 to collect black bass catch information from bass clubs in the state. Data from approximately one-quarter of all club tournaments held each year in Kansas were voluntarily reported by bass club anglers. This information has been collected at little expense to the agency and has proven reliable for documentation of largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) structure and density. These data have been used to monitor statewide trends in largemouth bass populations, to document population trends in individual impoundments, and to determine the impacts of management efforts. This program has also facilitated communication with bass clubs, benefitting the agency in the process.
