Abstract
The analysis of serum for fibrin degradation products is a useful tool for the clinician attending the severely ill patient. Analysis using the standard tanned red ceil hemagglutination inhibition immunoassay (TRCHII) is reproducible but time-consuming, and reagents are not readily available. Experience using two commercially available kits is reported here. If each manufacturer's instructions are closely followed, each kit serves as an acceptable alternative to the TRCHII test. The American Dade kit compares favorably to the Burroughs Wellcome product with respect to ease of endpoint determination, correlation with values obtained by the TRCHII test over a wide range of results (from negative to 2,560 μg/mL), and reproducibility. Keywords
