Abstract
This paper is essentially an annotated list of all the species observed or collected (during a period of some 70 years) on the small but faunally rich island of Rottnest, 11 miles west of Fremantle, Western Australia. Information from published and unpublished sources, in addition to the author's observations, is given on 32 species of marine birds, 31 littoral and lake birds, and 41 land birds (including five introduced species). An attempt has been made to define the present status of each species, and to give some indication of its abundance and habitat preferences. In many cases little more is known than those bare essentials, but in others, e.g. the Silver Gull and Mountain Duck, considerable information is now available on their biology. Keywords
