A study of the effects of dietary gum arabic in humans

Abstract
Gum arabic administered to men for 3 wk has little effect on glucose tolerance and stool weight, but decreases the serum cholesterol. There was no significant increase in fecal bile acids and neutral sterols. Breath bydrogen increased only after chronic administration. Gum arabic could not be recovered from the stool which suggests metabolism of gum arabic in the colon.
