Static Magnetization of High-Tc Superconductors

Abstract
We have measured the total magnetization of a series of compounds in the classes La2-xSrxCuO4 in the temperature range 5 K to 400 K and field range 0 to 4 T. In the superconducting state we observe an essentially complete Meissner effect below Hc1. We do not observe persistent currents on a macroscopic length scale. In the normal state we find the magnetization is only roughly temperature independent. The dependence correlates well with sample composition.
