Effects of Vines on Successional Herbs

Abstract
The interaction between Solidago rugosa, a perennial weedy herb, and Lonicera japonica, an introduced vine, is examined. Solidago plants, with and without vine growth, were compared with respect to dry weights of reproductive and aboveground vegetative structures. Plants with vines allocated a higher proportion of vegetative biomass to stems than did uninfested plants. Reproductive effort was not affected by vines.
