Abstract
The Friedmann Visual Field Analyser has been tested on 108 visual fields, of which 67 had neuro‐ophthalmological defects and 41 were normal according to the kinetic Goldmann perimeter which was used as a control method. For an exact evaluation of the extent of the defects and for follow‐up studies, the analyser was found to be less suitable. The most obvious advantage of the instrument is that it may be operated even by an untrained assistant. Used at one single luminance level of 0.2 log units above the one recommended according to the age of the subject, it was found to be a rapid and fairly reliable screening method. If three fields with enlarged blind spots were excluded, there were four relative hemianopias which escaped detection, i. e. 6% false‐negative fields. In these cases, the analyser happened to detect the hemianopia of the fellow eye. There were also a number of false‐positive results. Keywords
