Guinea-pigs are notoriously difficult to anaesthetize, but spinal anaesthesia offers a useful alternative. The technique described is quick, inexpensive, safe, requires no preoperative supplementation of the anaesthesia, gives excellent abdominal relaxation and decreases uterine tonus, thus having special merits in foetal surgery.
